Inspector Lewis: Season 1 (2007)

Sam: ****

  • I you’re married to an English person you may know this BBC series Inspector Morse. Starting in the late ’80s, Morse, played by John Thaw, was a grumpy detective from a posh school. He had a sidekick, Lewis, who was younger & blue collar (class is like race in England, so if you’re an American imagine this as white & black). John Thaw passed away, so the TV Morse died. So the actor who played Lewis, Kevin Whately, now older, has his own show, where he’s the grumpy boss. His assistant, Sgt Hathaway, (played by Laurence Fox, son of James Fox), is a young guy from a posh school, so the universe stays in balance. Fox does a good job so stay tuned for a grumpy older Inspector Hathaway & his blue collar sidekick.

Emma: ****

  • A watchable mystery.

Flawless (2007)

Sam: ***

  • This movie didn’t really make much sense, if you ask me. Not that bad…. What the heck, 3 stars.

Emma: ***

The Wedding Date (2005)

Sam: ****

  • I saw this a coupla weeks ago & don’t remember it very well. Something about a gender-reversal hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold…. But I like this whole romantic-comedy-set-in England thing, so 4 stars.

Emma: ***

  • A Four Weddings and a Funeral type movie, but not as good.

Drillbit Taylor (2008)

Sam: ***

This is one of those high school exploitation flicks. Seth Rogan, of Superbad, co-wrote this, &, at first I was like, isn’t this just like Superbad?

Emma: ***

  • Owen Wilson has a good on-screen presence, & this movie had funny moments — like the nerds’ fight preparation scene.
